‘More Of A Movie’: Rilee Rossouw Sparks Controversy On Social Media, Drawing Parallels Between IPL & PSL

South African cricketer Rilee Rossouw, who is currently playing franchise cricket for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing PSL 2026, has made a stunning and controversial statement in a viral video. The left-hand batter claimed that the PSL was better and more competitive than the IPL. According to Roussow, the IPL is a longer tournament than the PSL and gets active support from the Indian film industry, especially Bollywood.

As a result, he said that the tournament becomes "more of a movie" than "actual cricket." "The IPL is a very long tournament, and the PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce. The IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood backing it, so it's a lot more of a movie than actual cricket," he said.

PSL 2026: PCB's New Policy Triggers Backlash

The Pakistan Cricket Board's policy restricting its employees from working with franchises in the Pakistan Super League has sparked debate after former captain Misbah-ul-Haq acknowledged his association with Peshawar Zalmi as a consultant.

Earlier in the tournament, the PCB had barred Sarfaraz Ahmed and Wahab Riaz from taking up roles with Quetta Gladiators, citing a conflict of interest. The board maintained that individuals on its payroll, including former players in official roles, were not permitted to be involved with PSL franchises in any capacity.

However, Misbah clarified that his situation differed. He revealed that his agreement with Peshawar Zalmi was signed before his appointment as a national selector and batting consultant with the PCB. "I had already committed to Zalmi before taking up my current role, and my involvement is limited to specific days during the season," he explained while addressing the media in team colours.

When asked why he was granted permission while Sarfaraz and Wahab were denied similar opportunities, Misbah said the PCB was best positioned to clarify the distinction.

Having served as head coach, chief selector, and in various roles within the PCB since 2019, Misbah also emphasized that his engagement with the PSL provides valuable insights. He noted that observing players closely in match situations helps him make more informed decisions in his role as a national selector.
