Morgan''s tweet puts ECB in a tizzy

London, Feb 15 (PTI) In what could turn out to be apossible embarrassment for the English Cricket Board (ECB)ahead of their World Cup campaign, Eion Morgan has revealedthat the injury which forced him out of the mega-event was notas serious as first thought of.

The middle-order batsman with an average of slightly over38, used ''Twitter'' to express his joy over a possible earlycome back to the top level cricket after being ruled out witha broken finger during the recently concluded one-day seriesagainst Australia.

Morgan wrote, "Some good news this morning. No need foran op on my finger. Pretty much healed. Will be back soonerthan expected."

The 24-year-old southpaw was informed on February 7 thathe would require a surgery to treat his fractured finger andwas told to expect a six-week lay-off. Morgan was laterreplaced by Ravi Bopara, putting an end to his debut World Cupbid.

A friend of Morgan said, "It''s a bit annoying for him. Heshould have come back home as soon as he picked up the injury.

That delay has cost him. If the World Cup final was tomorrow,I reckon he''d be able to play."

The ECB, however, reiterated the medical staff agreed tomonitor the middle finger of Morgan''s left hand after theplayer insisted he had only bruised it in Adelaide beforeplaying ODIs in Brisbane and Sydney.

The board also insisted that Morgan would still need afew more weeks to recuperate and negated any chance of hisearly comeback.

England''s build up to the quadrennial event has beenmarred with the long list of injuries, which saw the teamspremier spinner Graeme Swann and pace duo of Tim Bresnan andAjmal Shahzad being forced to cut short their campaign againstthe Aussies, while fit-again Stuart Broad has not played sincethe second Ashes Test.

To add to the English woes, reliable but out of form PaulCollingwood is also nursing an injury ahead of the mega-event.
