Resigned! Key figure of Pakistan coaching staff steps down after World Cup 2023 debacle

Within a couple of days after Pakistan's horrible exit from the World Cup 2023, the first person from their coaching team resigned.

It was a dismal outing for the Pakistan team in the World Cup 2023 as Babar Azam and his troops failed to qualify for the semi-finals. And after their disappointing exit, it looks like one of their key coaching members has decided to step down.

Morne Morkel Pakistan

Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel has stepped down from his role, as PCB announced on Monday (November 13).

"Morne Morkel has resigned as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Men's team. The former South Africa fast bowler joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year. Morkel's first assignment with the men's team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series," PCB announced on Monday.

The former South Africa international took his duties especially for the World Cup but the underwhelming outing for the team has raised a lot of questions on Morkel.

PCB is yet to announce the replacement for Morkel and it is to be seen who replaces the former Proteas speedster. Pakistan's next assignment is a three-match Test series against Australia which starts from December 14.

Questions have already raised on Pakistan's underwhelming bowling outing in India. The likes of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf failed to extract enough to trouble the batters and also went for plenty of runs.

Haris Rauf's economy is 6.74, while Shaheen is also hovering around six with a 5.93 economy. Young Mohammad Wasim was a bright spark for them 10 wickets and a comparatively better economy of 5.63, while Hasan Ali also disappointed with an economy north of six in the tournament.
