Most Catches in IPL by Wicket Keeper: MS Dhoni Achieves New Milestone in All-Time List
Most Catches in IPL by Wicket Keeper: MS Dhoni has added yet another feather to his illustrious IPL cap. The Chennai Super Kings legend became the first wicket-keeper in IPL history to complete 150 catches during the 2025 season.
The milestone moment came in a match against Punjab Kings when Dhoni caught Nehal Wadhera off R Ashwin's bowling in the eighth over of PBKS' innings. With this, he extended his lead at the top of the all-time list, pulling further ahead of Dinesh Karthik, who has 137 catches.

MS Dhoni's record-breaking feat of 150 catches is a testament to his longevity, athleticism, and unparalleled game awareness. Having made his IPL debut in 2008, Dhoni has been a constant presence behind the stumps for Chennai Super Kings, with a brief stint at Rising Pune Supergiant during CSK's two-year suspension.
Over 17 seasons, the former India captain has evolved into the most successful wicketkeeper in the league's history, not just in terms of dismissals, but also his impact on matches through sharp glovework and astute leadership.
What sets Dhoni apart is the consistency and adaptability he's maintained across formats and eras. While younger keepers have emerged, Dhoni has remained at the top of the pile, largely due to his positioning, quick reflexes, and ability to read the game.
His tally of 150 catches, complemented by 45 stumpings, takes his overall dismissals tally to a staggering 195 from 262 innings-more than any other keeper in the league. Despite not having the highest dismissals-per-innings ratio (0.744), his sheer volume of matches and match-turning contributions makes his legacy unmatched.
Dinesh Karthik, who follows Dhoni on the list with 137 catches, has also had a long IPL career with multiple franchises. However, he trails Dhoni by 13 catches despite playing a similar number of games. Wriddhiman Saha, Rishabh Pant, and Robin Uthappa round out the top five Indian keepers, but none come close to Dhoni's staggering numbers.
Among overseas wicketkeepers, Quinton de Kock tops the list with 66 catches, followed by Adam Gilchrist's 51. Both had successful IPL runs but didn't enjoy the same career span as Dhoni. De Kock, still active, may climb further up, but closing the gap with Dhoni remains a long shot. Gilchrist, who played only six seasons, still holds a healthy dismissal-per-innings ratio but ended his career with 67 total dismissals-less than half of Dhoni's current mark.
Dhoni's latest milestone is more than a statistical achievement-it's a celebration of endurance, evolution, and excellence in T20 cricket. With IPL 2025 underway and Dhoni still active, more records may tumble. But even if none do, the 150-catch milestone firmly cements his status as the gold standard among IPL wicketkeepers.
