One of the most successful sides along with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings have also seasons to forget in recent years, having gone through their worst campaigns in Indian Premier League (IPL) history in 2022.
Five-time champions CSK led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni won their first IPL crown in 2010 and made it back to back titles with a triumph in 2011. After a barren run, which also included a two-year ban following the spot-fixing scandal, MS Dhoni's side once again emerged champions in 2018.

Dhoni's side once again won the crown in 2021 before suffering their worst ever finish in the following year in 2022. However, the Super Kings equaled the record for most IPL titles the very next year, beating Gujarat Titans in 2023.
In 2024, they missed out on qualifying for the playoffs by a whisker, and in 2025 they stare at another worst if not their most unsuccessful run in a IPL season. Here is a look at CSK's worst campaigns in IPL over the years:
In the 2022 season, CSK just about avoided the wooden spoon thanks to their rivals Mumbai Indians having one of their worst outings in IPL history. Dhoni-led CSK started the season with four successive defeats before pulling one win back that saw them alternate a win-loss run to finish in ninth on the points table with eight points.
In the remaining seasons, including their title winning campaigns, CSK has suffered either 5 or 6 defeats. But their 2022 campaign was the most unforgettable ones in the franchise's history as they finished just above the bottom-placed side.
Now, in 2025 they stare at an ever worse finish which could see them claim the unwanted wooden spoon for the first time in the Indian Premier League history. That's a feat even Mumbai Indians could not avoid in 2022.
