Most Five-Wicket Hauls in ODIs: Mitchell Starc Goes Level In Third With Fifer in India vs Australia 2nd ODI

With figures of 5 for 52, Starc achieved the feat during the India vs Australia 2nd ODI at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc on Sunday (March 19) joined compatriot Brett Lee and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi in third for most five-wicket hauls in One Day Internationals.

With figures of 5 for 52, Starc achieved the feat during the India vs Australia 2nd ODI at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam as the left-arm pacer ran through the Indian batting order, bundling them out for 117 in 26 overs.

The 33-year-old first got rid of Indian opener Shubam Gill caught at backward point by Marnus Labuschagne for a second-ball duck in the first over before a spectacular catch at second slip by Steve Smith helped send skipper Rohit Sharma back into the pavilion for 13.

Starc continued to torment in the Indian batters especially Suryakumar Yadav, who was trapped LBW of an inswinging delivery for a golden duck in the second successive match. First ODI's hero for India, KL Rahul also fell in similar fashion, but for 9 runs.

In the end, Starc returned to wrap up the Indian innings as he castled Mohammed Siraj for a third-ball duck, taking his tally of five-wicket hauls to 9, equal with Lee and Afridi. He is now only behind greats of the game Waqar Younis and Muttiah Muralitharan.
