Himanshu Sangwan's rise to prominence in Indian cricket has been nothing short of extraordinary, and his recent breakthrough moment-claiming the wicket of Virat Kohli-has made his journey even more remarkable.

The right-arm pacer from Railways has captured the cricketing world's attention after dismissing one of India's greatest batsmen for just six runs during the Ranji Trophy clash between Delhi and Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Sangwan's reaction to taking Kohli's wicket was one of humility and pride. "Honestly, I didn't have any specific strategy against him," Sangwan shared after the game. "I just stuck to the basics and bowled accordingly." While Kohli's wicket was a major milestone, Sangwan, who has earned his stripes through years of hard work, admitted that the significance of dismissing a player like Virat Kohli was not lost on him. "Virat is an inspiration to India, so quite obviously, it is the most important wicket of my career," he added, acknowledging the impact of such a moment on his journey.

Sangwan's road to this high point, however, has been anything but smooth. Born in Najafgarh, Delhi, on September 2, 1995, Sangwan's early years in cricket were far from glamorous. Before finding his footing in the world of professional cricket, he worked as a ticket collector at the New Delhi Railway Station. But it was his job at Indian Railways that would eventually unlock the door to his cricketing dream. Sangwan was given a chance to represent Railways while still working, and he made the most of this opportunity by consistently impressing in domestic cricket.

His talent was nurtured under the guidance of legendary Australian bowler Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Academy. Sangwan had his early introduction to the national cricket scene as a teammate of Rishabh Pant in India's U19 squad. However, his journey to prominence didn't happen as swiftly as some of his contemporaries. He struggled to find his place with Haryana, and it wasn't until 2019, when he joined Railways, that his career began to flourish.

Prior to the match against Delhi, Sangwan had already established himself as a key player in the domestic circuit, having claimed 77 wickets in 23 first-class games. His form had been strong, and with the confidence he gained through his years of hard work, he delivered another stellar performance against Delhi, claiming Kohli's wicket and four others in his previous match.
