Most Man of The Match Awards Won by Indians in IPL: Shubman Gill Level in 9th Following Award in KKR vs GT

Shubman Gill on Monday (April 21) moved to joint ninth for most player of match awards in Indian Premier League history following his fine display with the bat for Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025 match 39.

Gill scored a splendid 90 off 55 balls to take Titans to 198 before shepherding his troops to sixth win of the season. Gill’s knock with the bat was complimented by an all-round bowling display as GT restricted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 159 to seal a 39-run win.

GT captain Gill continued his form with a third fifty, sharing an 114-run stand with opening partner Sai Sudharsan (52 off 36 balls) before another 58-run stand with in-form Jos Buttler (41* off 23 balls) to power GT to a challenging total at the Eden Gardens.

While he had two fifties to his name already in the tournament, the fifty against KKR saw Gill bag only his first player of the match of the ongoing season with the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Sudharsan winning the award on previous occasions.

This was also his 11th player of the match award in IPL, drawing him level with injured duo of Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson for most man of the match awards won by Indians in IPL.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag also finished his IPL career with 11 POTM awards in his career, representing the likes of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Here is a look at the Indians with 10 or more man of the match awards in IPL:

Earlier this season, KL Rahul and Sunil Narine also moved closer to the top four with a player of the match award each. In the ongoing season, Siraj and Delhi Capitals duo of KL Rahul and Mitchell Starc have won the most man of the match awards with 2 POTM each.
