Most Player of The Match Awards in WPL: Harmanpreet Kaur Extends Record Following MI's 2025 Title Triumph

By MyKhel Staff

Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur extended her record for most player of match award wins in Women's Premier League history with a solid batting performance in the WPL 2025 final against Delhi Capitals on Saturday (March 15).

Harmanpreet scored a crucial 66 off 44 balls in the title clash enroute to her seventh player of the match award in the WPL. MI skipper's knock helped the side post a challenging total of 149 which was enough to beat Delhi Capitals by eight runs and the franchise to win a second WPL title.

Walking in to bat with her side struggling at 14/2, the Indian captain shared an 89-run stand with eventual MVP (Player of the Tournament) Nat Sciver-Brunt (30 off 28 balls). While she lost Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet ensured MI had enough on the board.

At the start of the month, Delhi Capitals' Jess Jonassen had drawn level with Harmanpreet for most POTM awards in WPL with back-to-back Player of the match awards taking the Australian's tally to 5 in the league.

The star Indian batter, however, soon took the sole lead by winning the award in the closing stages of the league phase before extending that record even further in the final match of the 2025 season. Here is a look at the cricketers with most WPL player of the match awards:

Most Player of the Match Awards in WPL History

  • Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians) - 7 POTM awards in 27 matches
  • Jess Jonassen (Delhi Capitals) - 5 POTM awards in 24 matches
  • Marizanne Kapp (Delhi Capitals) - 4 POTM awards in 24 matches
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians) - 4 POTM awards in 29 matches
  • Hayley Matthews (Mumbai Indians) - 4 POTM awards in 29 matches

Harmanpreet reflected on her knock during the presentation ceremony saying, "It wasn't easy when I went to bat. I had the belief that if I could rotate the strike, when Nat is there, I don't need to take too much pressure. She was in great touch and was doing it for the team. We tried to keep it simple and easy; we took calculated risks, and that helped us in the partnership."
