Most Runs in IND vs ENG Series: India held onto a commanding position at the end of Day 3 in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, despite a spirited fightback from Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.
The visitors had posted a daunting first-innings total of 587, and by stumps on Friday, they had built a lead of 244 runs with nine second-innings wickets in hand.

England, who resumed the day on 77/3, endured a nightmare start as Mohammed Siraj removed both Joe Root and Ben Stokes within the first over of play. Root, attempting an ill-advised shot, edged one to Rishabh Pant on 22, and on the very next delivery, Siraj dismissed England skipper Stokes for a golden duck - his first-ever first-ball dismissal in Tests - also caught behind.
At 84/5, England were in deep trouble, but Harry Brook and Jamie Smith launched a remarkable counterattack. Brook, in his typically composed style, compiled a fluent 158, while Smith unleashed a fearless assault en route to his unbeaten 184 - now the highest individual score by an England batter batting at number seven or lower in men's Test history.
The duo added 303 runs for the sixth wicket, the second-highest stand for that wicket for England in Test cricket, behind only Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes' 399-run partnership against South Africa in 2016. Smith's century came off just 80 balls, marking one of the fastest tons in the India-England Test rivalry.
Their stand finally ended after tea when Akash Deep clean bowled Brook. From there, England's innings quickly unraveled, with Siraj returning to wrap up the tail. He removed Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir - all for ducks - as England folded for 407, equaling their famous 2005 first-innings score against Australia on this very ground.
With a healthy 180-run lead, India came out to bat aggressively and reached 64/1 in 13 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only wicket to fall, trapped lbw by Tongue for 28. KL Rahul (28*) and Karun Nair (7*) will look to stretch India's lead further on Day 4 and put the game firmly out of England's reach.
