Delhi Capitals (DC) leapfrogged to second place in the battle for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024 during their 20-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 56 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (May 7).
Put into bat, DC openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel smashed three sixes each to get the team off to a fast start, while Tristan Stubbs also hit 3 maximums in the closing stages to take the hosts to 221.

Captain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Gulbadin Naib also hit a six each in the DC innings to take their team's sixes tally for the season past 120 as RR closed in on 100 maximums in the run chase.
In response, skipper Sanju Samson alone smashed 6 sixes but his knock of 86 ended in controversial fashion costing RR the match. Riyan Parag also had hit 3 sixes, while Shubham Pander contributed 2 maximums, and one six each was struck by Rovman Powell and Jos Buttler.
The ongoing season has seen close to 1000 sixes being struck in 56 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season with just more than 15 matches left to play this edition. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.
