Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) moved to third in the battle for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024 during their 18-run playoff-sealing victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday (May 11) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In a truncated match, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh smashed 2 sixes each, while Phil Salt, Ramandeep Singh and Nitish Rana also hit a maximum each to take KKR to 157/7 in their allotted 16 overs.

In response, Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir hit 2 sixes each, while Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma hit a six each, but could only take Mumbai Indians to 139/8 in the 16 overs.
With the result, KKR became the first team to seal a playoff spot this season and took their sixes tally to 125 for the season. MI, on the other hand, were already out of playoff contention and took their tally to 122 sixes.
The ongoing season has seen close to 1080 sixes being struck in 60 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season with just more than 14 matches left to play this edition. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.
