Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) moved to second in the race for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024, but their effort in the run-chase went in vain as they suffered a 1-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday (April 21) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar smashed 5 sixes each, while Karn Sharma smashed 3 sixes in the final over to give RCB some hope before falling to Mitchell Starc in the fifth delivery of the ultimate over of the match.

KKR remained in fifth despite smashing 7 sixes earlier in the first innings thanks to three from Phil Salt and two from Ramandeep Singh in the closing stages, but the Kolkata-based side have played 1 match fewer than RCB and scored 69 sixes.

The ongoing season has seen over 600 sixes being struck in just 36 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad inched close to a century of sixes and claimed a lead in the battle of sixes for a team in IPL 2024 after posting 266/7 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (April 20).
