Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stretched the lead in the battle for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024, but could not avoid the 7-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 55 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (May 6).
In their quest for most sixes by a team in a single season, SRH could only add 5 more to their tally - 2 from Pat Cummins and 1 each from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Marco Jansen.

In the run chase, Suryakumar Yadav alone smashed 6 sixes en route to his unbeaten 102 of 51 balls as Mumbai Indians reached the target of 174 with 15 balls to spare. Following the match, MI went level with KKR on 116 sixes, while SRH moved to 132 sixes.
The ongoing season has seen over 970 sixes being struck in 55 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season with just more than 15 matches left to play this edition. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.

Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad are all above 1000 or closing in on that number. Gujarat Titans and LSG, the newcomers, are yet to cross the 300-mark.
