Mumbai Indians (MI) reclaimed second spot in the race for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024, but it came in a losing cause as they suffered a 9-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday (April 22) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
After an early collapse, Nehal Wadhera (49 off 24) and Tilak Varma (65 off 45) smashed 4 and 3 sixes each respectively to take Mumbai Indians to a challenging total of 179/9. Mohammad Nabi also scored 1 maximum in MI's innings.

In the run chase, RR moved to sixth in battle of sixes after smashing 9 sixes - 7 from the bat of unbeaten centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal (104* off 60) and two maximums from Sanju Samson (38* off 28). The unbeaten 109-run stand saw RR seal their 7th win of the season.
The ongoing season has seen over 650 sixes being struck in just 38 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad inched close to a century of sixes and claimed a lead in the battle of sixes for a team in IPL 2024 after posting 266/7 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (April 20).
