Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) reclaimed the top position in the battle for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024 following a 4-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) to seal the second spot on the points table at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday (May 19).
Opting to bat first in their final match of the campaign, PBKS rode on Prabhsimran Singh's 71 along with a few cameos to set a target of 215 for SRH. Prabhsimran and Rilee Rossouw hit 4 sixes each, while Jitesh Sharma and Atharva Taide hit 2 sixes each in the PBKS innings.

In response, Abhishek Sharma (66 off 28 balls) smashed 6 sixes to take his own tally to 41 and SRH's past 150, while Nitish Reddy hit 3 sixes, and Heinrich Klaasen as well as Rahul Tripathi hit 2 sixes each in the run chase.
Abdul Samad also hit 1 maximum to take the home side's tally to 160 sixes as Sunrisers became the second team after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to hit more than 150 sixes in a single IPL season. RCB had achieved the feat on Saturday (May 18).
Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could not add to their tally as their crucial final league stage match was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday (May 19) night.
The ongoing season has seen over 1200 sixes being struck in 70 matches, projecting to the possible extension on record for the total sixes in an IPL season with at least 4 more matches left to play this edition.
