Most Sixes by a Team in IPL 2024: SRH Break Single Season Record After Hammering LSG on May 8

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the runaway leaders for most sixes by a team in IPL 2024, broke the single season record following a 10-wicket thumping win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday (May 8).

SRH opening pair Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were unforgiving towards the LSG bowlers as they smashed 7 and 5 maximums respectively to take the team's sixes tally to 141 for the season.

Abhishek Sharma (75* off 28) also took the lead for individual sixes with 34 for the season as he shared an unbeaten stand with Head (89* off 30) to chase down 167 in 9.4 overs, a record-breaking effort.

Earlier, LSG struggled in the first innings as Krunal Pandya (2 sixes), KL Rahul (1 six) and Nicholas Pooran (1 six) added just four sixes to their team tally to post a below par 165.

  4. RCB - 142 sixes in 2016
  5. MI - 140 sixes in 2023

The ongoing season has seen over 1000 sixes being struck in 56 matches, projecting to a possible breach in the total sixes for an IPL season with just more than 15 matches left to play this edition. The record stands at 1124 sixes in a 74-game season from last year.

The above list speaks about the most sixes scored by the team in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League. The current leader is way behind the legacy teams in terms of most maximums hit by a team in IPL history.

That record is currently held by Mumbai Indians followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have smashed over or close to 1600 sixes. Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have all hit over 1400 sixes.

Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad are all above 1000 or closing in on that number. Gujarat Titans and LSG, the newcomers, are yet to cross the 300-mark.
