Kolkata Knight Riders star Sunil Narine won the the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the record third time with his stunning performances with both bat and ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
With second-placed Virat Kohli already out of the race after Royal Challengers Bengaluru crashed out of the season following defeat to Rajasthan Royals, KKR's Narine did not face any other challenge in the race for player of the tournament award in the final.

Narine, who celebrated his birthday on the IPL 2024 Final day - May 26, scored 488 runs, including a century and 3 fifties, in 14 innings at a strike rate of 179.85. He has also struck 33 sixes and 50 fours, and claimed 17 wickets at an economy rate of 6.69.

The Most Valuable Player in IPL is ranked based on special rating system, which rewards players points for every four, six, wicket, dot ball, catches, run outs and stumpings.
For every four, a player earns 2.5 points, for a six - 3.5 points, for a wicket - 3.5 points, for a dot ball - 1 point and for every catch or stumping 2.5 points. All these points totalled together at the end of the season (after the final) will earn the top player of the list a MVP trophy.
As mentioned earlier, the player of the tournament (IPL man of the series) award was changed to IPL MVP by the organizers in 2013 and so far there have been 13 different players that have won the award in the 17 seasons so far with two players winning the award twice, and one player thrice.
Former Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals star Shane Watson, who won the first ever MVP award in 2013 and the first ever Man of the Series award in 2008, has won the award twice. KKR star Russell also won the IPL MVP or IPL Man of the Series award 2 times.
