Veteran Indian bowlers - pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday (March 29) overtook West Indies spinner Sunil Narine to climb up the leaderboard for most wickets in IPL.
The duo now share the joint-fourth spot in the Indian Premier League highest wicket-takers list, having achieved the feat with one wicket each during the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Starting the evening in joint fifth with Narine and Bhuvneshwar, CSK's Ashwin claimed the wicket of RCB's Devdutt Padikkal to take his tally to 182 wickets. Padikkal, who looked in fine touch, holed out to Ruturaj Gaikwad at extra cover to depart. Ashwin, however, did not add any more to his tally on the night.
During CSK's run-chase, Bhuvneshwar joined Ashwin by dismissing Deepak Hooda, but the RCB pacer needed DRS to overturn a caught behind appeal, which was subdued and adjudged not out by the onfield umpire. Like Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar also didn't add to his tally for the rest of the evening.
Narine, who moved to 181 wickets in his only outing this season, sat out of Kolkata Knight Riders' most recent outing due to injury. The former West Indies mystery spinner is expected to make strides in the upcoming games along with Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar, who are one scalp behind the legend Dwayne Bravo.
Also, the leading wicket-taker of IPL, Yuzvnedra Chahal, will look to extend his lead at the top of the most wickets in IPL list when he turns up for Punjab Kings in the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025. Chahal is the only bowler with 200 wickets in IPL. Here is a look at the top 10 wicket-takers in the league:
