India broke their record for most wins in a single ODI World Cup edition following the thumping 160-run victory over Netherlands in match 45 of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (November 12).
India registered their tenth successive win in the tournament to seal the final berth, but lost the final to Australia. The Men in Blue had earlier won 8 times in the 2003 World Cup, where they finished runners up following defeat to Australia in the final.

The Indian cricket team had also secured seven wins in the 2015 edition, when New Zealand had registered eight wins, which is only the second best when it comes to most wins in a single ODI World Cup. Sri Lanka too had won eight matches to secure the 1996 title.
While India's feat of ten wins is only the second best, the record for most wins in a single tournament is currently held by Australia, who secured 11 wins twice in their 2003 and 2007 World Cup triumphs.
The formats were different earlier when teams used to be divided into groups and then progress to the Super Six or Super Eight stages. Some ODI World Cups have also seen fewer number of matches, while some have seen a team play more.
Rohit Sharma's India failed to match the Australian record to remain unbeaten throughout the 2023 World Cup, which handed Australia the sixth ODI World Cup triumph. Here is a look at the teams with most wins in single ICC World Cup:
