MS Dhoni and Vizag: A Perfect Swansong with CSK in IPL 2024 which Began in India Colours

Vishakhapatnam is known for its immense natural beauty with a coastal line parallel with the Eastern Ghats. The port city of Andhra Pradesh has a rich connection with Indian cricket folklore, as this is where it all started for MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni, then a long-haired unknown boy from Ranchi has a connection with the Vizag Stadium which traces back to a memorable moment in 2005.

Dhoni

During an ODI against Pakistan, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, a young Dhoni, just 23, was promoted up the order. This strategic move led to Dhoni scoring his first ODI century on April 5, 2005, with a formidable 148 runs off 123 balls. This innings not only marked Dhoni's emergence in international cricket but also began his journey towards becoming an Indian cricket legend.

Fast forward nearly two decades, Dhoni has secured his place as one of cricket's greats, boasting multiple World Championships and five IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings. And as Dhoni's CSK was set to meet Delhi Capitals in Vizag, there was an optimistic anticipation.

MS Dhoni & Vizag: A Perfect Swansong

As it turned out, Dhoni had a blast at the stadium from where it all started for him. Dhoni came to bat for the last three overs, and conquered the hearts with some mindboggling shots across the ground.

He pulled Mukesh Kumar for a boundary to start and then went berserk on Anrich Nortje. He hit a one-handed six over Long On and cleared the boundary on the offside with ease. In the end, the scorecard saw Dhoni unbeaten on 37 off just 16 balls, consisting of 4 fours and 3 sixes.

The crowd went berserk at the ACA-VDCA Stadium. Although CSK lost the match, it didn't matter to the majority as they could witness Dhoni at his very best. He never looked out of the game for such a long time as the ex-CSK captain creamed his timings and easily picked the gaps.

The relationship between Dhoni and the Vizag stadium goes back a long way as the stadium saw the inception of Dhoni in the international arena. Dhoni comes down to no. 8 these days for Chennai Super Kings, but the veteran was destined to come out and bat in Vizag, as it turned out to be a perfect swansong for him at the venue.
