'MS Dhoni Angry and Throwing Helmet': CSK Legend Suresh Raina reveals shocking IPL Tale

MS Dhoni is known for his calm demeanour on the field. But even the great man also loses his temper.

Chennai Super Kings legend Suresh Raina reminisced an old and unheard story of MS Dhoni becoming angry during an IPL Match. Raina revealed the incident which happened during the IPL 2014 Qualifier 2 match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the Wankhede Stadium.

CSK had to chase a mammoth total set by Punjab, but they fell short of 24 runs. Virender Sehwag scored a hundred as Punjab amassed 226 runs. CSK, while chasing scored 100 runs in powerplay as Suresh Raina himself scored a brilliant 87 off just 25 balls.

Despite the bright start, they fell short and MS Dhoni was criticized for scoring just 42 runs in 31 balls. And after that, the then CSK captain was angry beyond imagination and Raina recalled that he had never seen Dhoni that angry.

"I have never seen Dhoni that angry. He vented it out after that match. He was like 'we don't score runs, we don't do this, that'. He threw his pads and helmet in the dressing room. He was irritated that we lost a match that we should have won. He was angry because we lost a match that we shouldn't have. Otherwise, we would have won the IPL that year as well," Raina said during a discussion on Lallantop as quoted by NDTV.

Suresh Raina played a brilliant knock himself as he went on to score 87 runs, before getting run out by a direct George Bailey throw. The 100 runs in powerplay was then a record score in IPL, which was later broken by KKR when they scored 105 runs against RCB.

Recalling that knock, Raina revealed that he was like a man possessed in that match and had a dream the night before of doing something special.

"I felt like a man possessed. The previous day, I had a dream that I would do something special. I was seeing the ball like a football. But, I was run out. The ball hitting the bat gave me a very different sound. I was feeling like no one could stop me," Raina further added.

KKR won the IPL that season beating Kings XI Punjab in the Final at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
