MS Dhoni Breaks Silence On IPL Retirement Rumours, Says 'You know whether I’ll be playing or not...'

It's been five years since MS Dhoni bid farewell to international cricket, but the former India captain continues to be an active presence in the Indian Premier League. Now 44, the iconic wicketkeeper-batter remains deeply connected with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a team he has led to all five of their IPL titles.

In 2024, Dhoni made a significant move by handing over the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, the season turned out to be a tough one. Not only did the Super Kings miss out on a playoff berth by a slim margin, but they also endured an unprecedented low - finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time in their history.

While CSK's struggles drew attention, Dhoni's future as a player remained one of the biggest talking points throughout the season. Although he has not made a definitive decision about playing in IPL 2025, Dhoni recently addressed the topic during an event recently.

"Me and CSK, we are together," he said, drawing applause from the crowd. "You know, even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years."

Dhoni did confirm that while his playing days may be nearing an end, his bond with the franchise remains as strong as ever. "It's not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey. You know whether I'll be playing or not in a while, but yeah, you know yourself," he said.

Reflecting on CSK's journey and its impact on him, Dhoni added, "I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also."

Speaking on the team's recent dip in performance, Dhoni admitted, "Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. But what is important is for you to see the learnings."

He also offered an update on Gaikwad, who missed the second half of IPL 2024 due to an elbow injury: "Rutu will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now."
