MS Dhoni is set to feature for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL and will play a key role in the team. The former India captain decided to skip auction and got retained by CSK as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore.
Dhoni relinquished the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad last season but still is colossal personnel in the team. And a source close to MS Dhoni confirmed MyKhel that the veteran star will be more than a player for the franchise this season.
"MS Dhoni may join CSK pre-season camp on February 25 for the IPL. He was abroad for a long time but now he will be with CSK," the source told MyKhel on condition of anonymity.
Dhoni has been troubled with a knee injury and underwent surgery to elongate his career. The concerned source says the veteran looked completely fit during his stay in Ranchi.
"Dhoni is fully fit. He was training well and even exercising. He did everything. Now, if you compare a 43-year-old's fitness with a 23-year-old, that's not fair. But even now, Mahi is fitter than many youngsters," the source added.
Dhoni has been a maverick in the IPL and it will be his 18th season in the competition. The former India captain has struggled with fitness but he is expected to play a key role for CSK this season as well. At the age of 43 years, Dhoni is still agile and is a huge personnel at the franchise.
CSK will start their campaign in IPL 2025 with a clash against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the Chepauk Stadium.
