Dhoni returned to lead CSK mid-season after Ruturaj Gaikwad, the original captain for IPL 2025, was ruled out due to an elbow injury. An IPL official, quoted by PTI, revealed that the restart could kick off with the previously postponed match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow-originally scheduled for May 9.

Should logistical constraints limit the competition to just four or five venues, teams like Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians may lose the chance to play any remaining home games. The revised venue list is likely to include Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Lucknow.

For Chennai Super Kings, the current campaign is all but over. With just six points from 12 matches, they sit at the bottom of the table and are out of contention for the playoffs. They have two fixtures remaining-a home tie against Rajasthan Royals and an away clash with Gujarat Titans.

While CSK, SRH, and RR are already mathematically eliminated, the fight for the four playoff spots continues among seven other franchises. However, the official resumption of the league hinges on final approval from the Central Government, which the IPL authorities are actively pursuing.
