MS Dhoni is the 'God of Chennai', and temples will be built for him in the coming years, former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Ambati Rayudu said on Sunday, May 12.
Chennai Super Kings kept their playoffs hopes alive after beating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets. In their last league stage match at home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk), CSK got the better of RR in a low-scoring encounter.

MS Dhoni did not come out to bat, but the fans had a closer look at the superstar cricketer as the entire CSK squad took a lap of honour. Like last year, Dhoni once again used a tennis racquet to send some signed balls into the stands for the fans.
Ambati Rayudu said temples would be built for MS Dhoni Chennai for the happiness he has given to the people of the city. CSK won five IPL trophies and two Champions League T20 titles under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the IPL 2024 season.
“He is the God of Chennai and I am sure, temples of MS Dhoni would be built in the years to come in Chennai,” Rayudu told Star Sports.
“He is someone who brought India the joy of two World Cups and has brought Chennai joy with a lot of IPL and Champions League titles. He has just been that one guy who shows belief in his players, who has always done it for the team, for the country and for CSK.
“He is a legend and someone everybody celebrates in the crowd. They might be thinking that this might be his last game in Chennai,” Rayudu added.
MS Dhoni is very likely to announce his retirement from IPL after the season, and if CSK fail to qualify for the playoffs, the match against Rajasthan might get recorded as his last outing at the Chepauk. CSK will clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final league stage fixture on May 18.
