MS Dhoni 'Gussa Ho Gaye', Former CSK Teammate Recalls Rare Incident of Captain Cool Squaring off With Umpires

By MyKhel Staff

MS Dhoni, often referred to as 'Captain Cool' for his unparalleled composure on the field, is rarely seen losing his temper. Yet, there are rare instances that prove even the calmest minds can have a breaking point.

One such moment came during an IPL 2019 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), where MS Dhoni, known for his measured demeanour, displayed an uncharacteristic burst of anger that left fans and teammates stunned.

MS Dhoni Angry

The incident, which occurred in the final over of a high-stakes match, revolved around a controversial no-ball call. After getting out and watching from the dugout, Dhoni witnessed a high full toss bowled by Ben Stokes to Mitchell Santner that initially appeared to be declared a no-ball by the square leg umpire.

However, the decision was abruptly overturned, leading to confusion on the field. This reversal struck a nerve with Dhoni, and despite being seated off the field, he stormed back into the game to confront the umpires - a sight that left everyone shocked.

Former teammate Mohit Sharma, who played for CSK at the time and is currently with Gujarat Titans, recently recalled the moment during an appearance on the "2 Sloggers" podcast. According to Mohit, MS Dhoni was already fuming after his dismissal when the no-ball controversy unfolded. Mohit described how Dhoni's anger escalated in the dugout as soon as he realised what had happened.

"We were in the dugout, shouting, 'Don't go, don't go!' But he didn't even look back," Mohit shared, highlighting the intensity of the moment. He likened Dhoni's presence on the field to a lion entering the arena, conveying the rare intensity of his emotions.

Despite his teammates' attempts to hold him back, Dhoni marched onto the field and engaged in a heated exchange with the umpires. His actions resulted in a fine of 50% of his match fees, a stark reminder that even the calmest leaders can crack under extreme pressure. The incident has since become one of the few instances where Dhoni's composed exterior gave way to raw emotion, showing that even the coolest captains can have moments of passion.
