MS Dhoni hailed by former leg-spinner for 'playing with one leg' - 'Warrior, champions for life'

Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has praised MS Dhoni for 'playing with one leg' and still winning the IPL 2023 trophy for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni's CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by three wickets in the summit clash on Monday, May 29.

Dhoni was nursing a knee injury throughout the tournament and was seen wincing in pain on several occasions. The 41-year-old was also seen sporting a knee cap on many occasions.

The talismanic leader travelled to Mumbai following his record-equalling fifth IPL triumph with CSK and underwent a successful surgery on his left knee. The reports have added that he has flown back to Ranchi where he will rest for a few days before starting his rehabilitation to gear up for the IPL 2024.

"Yes, Dhoni has had a successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. He is doing fine and the surgery happened in the morning. I don't have the details. I am yet to get all the details about the nature of the surgery and other things," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to PTI.

Taking to Twitter, Sivaramakrishnan, an ardent CSK fan, hailed Dhoni for his warrior-like mindset and called him a 'champion for life'.

"MS Dhoni went through a knee surgery today, it was successful. True Leader, playing with one leg. No pain no gain. The agonising pain did not affect his clarity of thoughts. Amazing how he was able to lead a side with so much pain. His mindset is of a warrior. Champion for life," Sivaramakrishnan tweeted.

Dhoni led CSK beautifully throughout the season despite multiple injury setbacks in his team. He has not yet announced his retirement and decided to play a season more as a tribute to his fans.
