Ranchi traffic cops have slapped a quick Rs 1,000 e-challan on cricket icon MS Dhoni for overspeeding near his home.
The former India captain's vehicle tripped the city's automated cameras, breaching Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act with excessive speed in a restricted zone.

Dhoni, a proud Ranchi native who rose from local grounds to global stardom, got pinged by the surveillance system right by his Ring Road residence as he was overspeeding. It's a small fine, but the former India captain has been put under the law. Dhoni, who has a huge affinity for motorbikes, generally travels across Ranchi with his two-wheelers. He is often seen on the Ranchi roads with his bikes as he travels to the JCA stadium in Ranchi for practice.
This speed blip follows hot on the heels of a Jharkhand Housing Board notice over his old Harmu Road plot. Allotted purely for living, officials suspect commercial use after Dhoni shifted homes. No major drama yet, but it keeps the headlines rolling.
Amid the off-field noise, the 44-year-old wicketkeeping maestro is back in Chennai Super Kings' nets, prepping for IPL 2026. CSK, five-time champs, hit rock bottom in 2025 with just 4 wins from 14 games-their worst finish ever-thanks to injuries and batting woes.
Retained cleverly as an "uncapped" player at Rs 4 crore (a loophole since he hasn't played international cricket lately), Dhoni thrives as finisher. Last season, he smashed 196 runs in 14 innings at a blistering 135.17 strike rate, nailing those death-over cameos that define his legacy. Dhoni recently joined the CSK camp and has been training with the likes of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and other uncapped Indian players.
The IPL 2026 is likely to start from March 28 and will continue till May 31. The schedule is yet to be released due to election conundrums, but Royal Challengers Bengaluru are likely to play the first match at home against Mumbai Indians.
