MS Dhoni Injury Update: How Many CSK Matches in IPL 2026 will he Miss after Calf Injury?

By MyKhel Staff

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday announced that veteran captain MS Dhoni is undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain and is expected to miss the opening two weeks of the IPL 2026 season.

In an official statement shared on their social media handles, CSK confirmed the news, stating that the former India captain will not be in action for the upcoming few matches.

MS Dhoni Injury Update How Many CSK Matches in IPL 2026 will he Miss after Calf Injury

"MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026. Get well soon, Thala!" a statement from CSK wrote.

The 44-year-old icon, who has led CSK to five IPL titles and remains one of the most revered figures in the league, has been dealing with fitness concerns in recent seasons, including persistent knee issues that required surgery after the 2023 triumph. Recent practice videos showing him limping had already sparked fan anxiety ahead of the new campaign.

Dhoni's absence, particularly behind the stumps and in the lower order, will be a significant early test for stand-in skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and the squad. His calm presence and finishing prowess have often proven decisive in high-pressure situations.

When will MS Dhoni Return?

For now, Dhoni has been slated to miss two weeks of IPL 2026, which means, he will likely return in mid-April. But if the injury issue persists, the return can be further delayed.

How many IPL 2026 matches will MS Dhoni Miss?

Chennai Super Kings begin their campaign in Guwahati on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals. Dhoni's a certain miss for that and will be out of action for a few more matches.

A two-week injury for MS Dhoni will mean him missing out 4-5 matches. Dhoni will not be available for the encounters against Punjab Kings (April 3), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (April 5), Delhi Capitals (April 11) and Kolkata Knight Riders (April 14). He may return to the field in CSK's sixth group stage match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.
