MS Dhoni Named Highest Individual Taxpayer in Bihar-Jharkhand for FY 2025-26
Former India captain MS Dhoni has once again been declared the highest individual taxpayer in the combined Bihar-Jharkhand region for the financial year 2025-26.
The announcement was made on May 7 by Dr D Sudhakara Rao, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Bihar-Jharkhand.

MS Dhoni submits a huge tax
The Income Tax Department collected approximately ₹20,000 crore from the two states during the year, with Jharkhand contributing ₹12,000 crore and Bihar ₹8,000 crore. Roughly 70 per cent of the collections came through Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) from salaried individuals, corporates and the organised sector. Mining giants such as Central Coalfields Limited, Bharat Coking Coal Limited and CMPDI were among the top corporate taxpayers.
Dhoni, a Ranchi native, has topped the individual taxpayer list in the region for over a decade, a streak that began as early as 2007-08 and continued through high-profile years like 2017-18 when he paid ₹12.17 crore. Officials did not disclose the exact tax amount paid by the 44-year-old cricketer this year, but the honour reflects his robust financial portfolio even after retiring from international cricket in 2020.
The CSK icon's net worth is estimated between ₹1,000 crore and ₹1,200 crore. His earnings stem from a hefty IPL salary, lucrative endorsement deals worth ₹3.5-6 crore each with brands like Pepsi, Reebok, TVS Motors and Dream11, and diversified businesses including Hotel Mahi Residency in Ranchi, SportsFit gyms, his sportswear label SEVEN, a production house and investments in startups such as Garuda Aerospace and electric mobility ventures.
The news comes as Dhoni continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. Despite a calf injury limiting his on-field presence, the five-time champions remain in playoff contention with 10 points from 10 matches. Dhoni's enduring popularity continues to draw packed stadiums and sponsorships across the league.
For cricket-crazy Bihar and Jharkhand, Dhoni remains more than a sporting legend-he is a symbol of sustained success and economic contribution. His consistent tax leadership underscores the massive off-field impact of India's most beloved captain.
