MS Dhoni Scripts History as CSK Defeat LSG by 5 Wickets in IPL 2025 Thriller

LSG vs CSK: In a high-octane clash at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a thrilling 5-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 30 of IPL 2025.

The night belonged to MS Dhoni, who not only finished the game in vintage style but also broke two significant IPL records, adding another golden chapter to his legendary career.

CSK Opt to Bowl First - LSG Post 166/7

After winning the toss, CSK captain Dhoni opted to bowl first on a wicket that offered something for both batters and bowlers. LSG lost Aiden Markram early, but Mitchell Marsh (30 off 25) and Rishabh Pant (63 off 49) stitched together crucial runs in the middle. Pant's return to form was the highlight of LSG's innings, as he anchored the side with fluent strokeplay.

Ayush Badoni added a brisk 22, while Abdul Samad smashed a 20 off 11 before falling to a brilliant direct-hit run-out by Dhoni, who had already stumped Badoni and caught Pant earlier - completing a historic 200 IPL dismissals behind the stumps.

Ravindra Jadeja (3-0-24-2) was tidy and effective, removing Marsh and Badoni. Matheesha Pathirana chipped in with two wickets, while Anshul Kamboj impressed with 1/20 in his three overs. LSG finished with 166/7 in 20 overs, a competitive but chaseable target.

CSK Chase Anchored by Dube, Finished by Dhoni

CSK's reply started on a strong note with Shaik Rasheed (27 off 19) and Rachin Ravindra (37 off 22) providing early momentum, taking them to 52 in under 5 overs. However, a middle-over collapse triggered by Ravi Bishnoi (2/18) and Digvesh Rathi left CSK at 111/5 by the end of the 15th over, with the match hanging in the balance.

Enter MS Dhoni.

The veteran skipper walked in with CSK needing 56 runs off 30 balls and turned back the clock in spectacular fashion. He remained unbeaten on 26 off just 11 deliveries, striking 2 sixes and a four, and combined with Shivam Dube (43* off 37) for an unbroken 57-run partnership. The duo chased down the target with three balls to spare, finishing at 168/5 in 19.3 overs.

Records Tumble as Dhoni Steals the Show

MS Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper in IPL history to complete 200 dismissals, a staggering milestone achieved with a stumping, a catch, and a direct-hit run-out - all in the same match.

At 43 years and 281 days, he also became the oldest player to win the Man of the Match award in IPL history, thanks to his match-winning cameo with the bat.
