Bengaluru, Feb 11: Media reports claimed that MS Dhoni and his lawyers are all set to sue a Hindi daily which had accused him of fixing a test match against England in 2014.

Dhoni is likely to file a Rs 100-crore defamation case against the daily. His lawyers reportedly sent a nine-page legal notice to the Hindi daily.

The daily reportedly quoted the then team manager of Team India, Sunil Dev. He allegedly had claimed that Dhoni intentionally had opted to bat first on bat on a wet wicket.

The test match, which was played at Old Trafford in 2014, wrapped up within three days as Team India lost the match. Mr Sunil Dev, however, overruled such reports.

In the legal notice, Dhoni's lawyers wrote, "The said video contains footage of an absolute dubious sting operation of the aforementioned Mr (Sunil) Dev, which in the present circumstances is nothing but a false propaganda initiated by you to defame my client. In fact, the so-called Indian cricket official (Sunil Dev) who you have credited to be the source of information has strongly denied the incident."

"Our client (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) reserves the right to institute proceedings for the recovery of damages up to Rs. 100 crores (1 billion) from you on account of the defamation, mental agony and trauma caused to him due to this by causing loss of his reputation."
