MS Dhoni Turns 42: The 14 Big Trophies Won By The GOAT As Skipper Of Team India and Chennai Super Kings

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, dubbed the greatest finisher the game has ever seen, turns 42-years-old on Friday (July 7). He has undeniably been one of the best captains for Team India and Chennai Super Kings. His smarts behind the stumps and decision-making is very unique.

MS Dhoni remains the only captain in the history of the sport to have won all three ICC white-ball tournaments - T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy. He also oversaw India's rise to being the world's number-one-ranked Test team for the first time in 2010 and a year later in 2011, an forgettable year for Indians.

3. 2010 Test Mace: Dhoni was at the helm when India attained number 1 status in Test cricket for the first time in their history. Following brilliant performance in the cycle from 2009 May, India broke Australia's dominance to land their first Test mace.

4. 2010 Asia Cup: Dhoni won his first of two Asia Cup titles after India defeated Sri Lanka in the final at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. This was India's fifth title triumph in the continental event.

5. 2010 Champions League T20: Dhoni and co won their first of two now defunct CL T20 tournament, which featured teams from various T20 leagues around the world. CSK defeated Warriors from South Africa in the final.

6. 2011 ODI World Cup: The iconic six by the skipper is still etched in the minds of cricket fans across the world. Dhoni guided India to his second World Cup triumph, ending a 28-year wait for the ODI World Cup as they beat Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium, where a special monument is laid in memory of the win and in the location of where the six landed.

7. 2011 Test Mace: Dhoni's Team India maintained their dominance at the top the Test rankings and landed the second mace for the country within a space of a year. India won many bilateral series in the unforgettable year for the skipper.

8. 2011 IPL: Dhoni's CSK won their second IPL title to cap off a fruitful year for the skipper. This was the first time a team won back-to-back titles in the cash-rich league. This was Dhoni's third title as captain of CSK after 2010 IPL title and 2010 CL T20 title.

9. 2013 Champions Trophy: This was Dhoni's first Champions Trophy and India's second as the Men in Blue defeated hosts England in the final, in which skipper MSD opted to use Ishant Sharma in the 18th over, which happened to be the turning point as the pacer picked up two crucial wickets and India ended up winning by 5 runs.

10. 2014 Champions League T20: MS Dhoni guided CSK to their second CL T20 title as the two-time IPL winners defeated fellow IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Suresh Raina, chinna thala, scored a century.

11. 2016 Asia Cup: Dhoni won his 11th major title as captain and the second Asia Cup title almost six years after the first as India defeated Bangladesh in the final with the skipper contributing an unbeaten 20 off 6 balls.

12. 2018 IPL: On CSK's comeback to the league after a two-year ban, Dhoni led the team to their third IPL title as they defeated southern rivals Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final, where Shane Watson smashed a century to hand an 8-wicket win.

13. 2021 IPL: After a flop show in the previous edition, where they finished last, Dhoni's men bounced back in style by dominating the season and beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final to land their fourth IPL crown.

14. 2023 IPL: At the age of 41 earlier this year, Dhoni mastered yet another IPL triumph as CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans in the final to lift their record-equalling fifth IPL title.
