IPL 2023: Former CSK Cricketer Claims MS Dhoni Will Retire From Cricket After Ongoing Season 16

IPL 2023: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Kedar Jadhav has claimed that MS Dhoni would retire from all forms of cricket after the conclusion of IPL 2023. He has suggested that fans should avoid any of Dhoni's upcoming matches for the same reason.

Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, however, he continued playing in the IPL. He has shown great form in the ongoing season and scored 58 runs at an average of 58 and a strike rate of 214.81. He has stayed unbeaten in two out of his three innings.

The CSK captain scored 32 unbeaten runs off just 17 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday. With 21 required of the last over, Dhoni slammed two back-to-back sixes and almost won the thriller for the four-time champions.

“I am telling you this with 2,000 per cent certainty that this will be MS Dhoni’s final season as a player in IPL. I am telling you this exclusively," Jadhav said in an exclusive interaction with News18 CricketNext.

“Dhoni will turn 42 this July. Although still fit, Dhoni is also a human after all. So, I think this will be his final season. Fans shouldn’t be missing any of his matches, they should be watching every ball he’s in the field," he added.

“We also broke record on JioCinema the other day when Dhoni was batting," Jadhav said referring to 2.2 crore viewers who tuned in when the right-hander was batting against Rajasthan.

Jadhav, who has played 73 ODIs and 9 T20Is for India, has also predicted the next captain of CSK. The 38-year-old has said that Ben Stokes' availability would be an issue and that would make Ruturaj Gaikwad an ideal choice.

"I think Ruturaj Gaikwad could be the captain of CSK after MS Dhoni. Ben Stokes is also another potential captain along with Ravindra Jadeja. But for that Stokes has to play really well for CSK this year. Availability is another issue. So I think Rituraj Gaikwad is the best option to captain CSK after MS Dhoni," said Jadhav, who is an IPL commentator and expert for JioCinema.
