'Muje 30 lakh banane hai bas': Wasim Jaffer reveals MS Dhoni's chat with his wife

Wasim Jaffer has revealed an interesting anecdote regarding MS Dhoni when he was new in the Indian cricket team. The former India opener has said that Dhoni had talked to his wife and expressed his very modest desire of earning Rs 30 lakh by playing for India.

Dhoni, who made his India debut in 2004, got out for a duck against Bangladesh in his debut ODI innings in Chattogram. He registered scores of 12, 7 not out and three in his next three innings. In his debut Test match in December 2005 against Sri Lanka, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 30 runs before getting out for 5 in his second Test innings in Delhi.

With not a great start to his international career, Dhoni told Jaffer's wife that he could leave peacefully and live in Ranchi if he manages to make a fortune worth Rs 30 lakh.

"I remember he said that to my wife: 'Bhabhi, mujhe Rs 30 lakh banane hain. Agar maine Rs 30 lakh bana liye, toh I know I can leave very peacefully,” Jaffer told exclusively to SportsKeeda.

The domestic cricket legend also revealed that Dhoni used to say that “'Kuchh bhi ho jae, main Ranchi nahi chhodunga. (Come what may, I won’t leave Ranchi)”. Jaffer appreciated the grounded nature of Dhoni, who had "small aims and small goals".

However, Dhoni went on to become one of the richest cricketers in the world later in his career which saw him lead India to two World Cup title triumphs. He also became the only captain in the world to win the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.

Dhoni, who is celebrating his 42nd birthday on Friday, still plays in the IPL which also has helped him earn close to Rs 200 crores. One of the biggest brands in India, Dhoni despite all the success remained rooted and continues to live in Ranchi when he is not playing for the Chennai Super Kings.
