Mukesh Kumar's Cryptic Instagram Post Fuels Selection Frustration - Is Gambhir in the Line of Fire?

By MyKhel Staff

In a move that has sent ripples across the Indian cricketing landscape, India pacer Mukesh Kumar shared a cryptic Instagram story on Wednesday (June 18) that has sparked intense debate, speculation, and introspection within the cricketing fraternity.

The timing of the message was impossible to ignore. It came just hours after India's Test squad for the England tour was announced-with Harshit Rana earning a surprise call-up ahead of Mukesh, despite the latter's more convincing performances in red-ball cricket over the past year.

Mukesh Kumar

On Wednesday night, Mukesh's post on Instagram caught the attention of the fans. A cryptic message was written on behalf of Mukesh, although without any indication of context and subject, but a very powerful message indeed.

"Karma bides its time. You will always have to watch out. Karma is unforgiving and always gets payback," a story shared by Mukesh Kumar on Instagram said.

Mukesh Kumar's Social Outburst A Justified Grievance?

Mukesh's exclusion is baffling on paper. The Bengal pacer had been consistent across domestic tournaments and had put in a more effective showing than Rana during the recent India A fixtures against England Lions. While Rana managed just one wicket in his outing, Mukesh impressed with tight lines and three scalps in a disciplined spell. Yet, it was the Delhi pacer who was drafted into the senior squad. Mukesh's performance in the Ranji Trophy is superb, as the Bengal ace has been excellent over the last couple of seasons.

He has already played three Test matches for India, where he picked up 7 wickets. His last appearance came against England last year in Vizag. But after a poor outing, he has not been in the reckoning so far for the Indian team.

That alone would have been enough to cause consternation, but did it lead Mukesh Kumar to his social outburst?

Is Gautam Gambhir the Target?

Many have begun to speculate whether the post is a subtle dig at new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was recently handed the reins following Rahul Dravid's departure. Gambhir, known for his no-nonsense, results-oriented philosophy, has already begun to stamp his authority on team selections.

Harshit Rana has been Gambhir's go-to man on many occasions, and despite lack of performance in recent times, Harshit's selection fueled questions about whether that was Mukesh's cause of frustration.

However, there is no official confirmation linking Gambhir to this specific decision. Nor has Mukesh Kumar clarified the intent of his message. The ambiguity of the post leaves room for interpretation, as some see it as a general venting of frustration, others as a targeted message to probably the decision makers.
