Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings are opening their Pakistan Super League 2024 campaign on Sunday (February 18) in the second match of the doubleheader as they face off at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.
Multan Sultans, the previous two runners-up, will enter the competition hungry to win it this time. However, Karachi Kings would hope to reproduce the 2020 edition's performance.
The past two seasons, Lahore Qalandars have defeated the Sultans, captained by Muhammad Rizwan. For the past three seasons, the 2021 season winners have shown excellent form and performances in every area. The Karachi Kings, on the other hand, will be trying to alter this fact this time around after failing to secure a postseason spot.
In the past few PSL seasons, Multan Sultans have shown to be one of the best and most dominant teams. Their performance was reflected in the outcomes as well; they were the winners in 2021 and narrowly missed out on the championship in the next two seasons.
The Sultans boast one of the strongest batting lineups in the league. They include explosive hitters like South African Reeza Hendricks, who will be making her debut with the team, and Pakistani goalie Muhammad Rizwan.
The top-order is quite robust because of these players. Next in line will be dependable players like Johnson Charles, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, and David Willey. They therefore essentially check every box in terms of the batting department.
However, the loss of their two major pacers took some of the shine off their bowling attack. Due to injuries, English speedster Reece Topley and local sensation Ihsanullah from last season will not be competing this year.
However, following a string of lackluster performances in the previous rounds, Shan Masood's Karachi Kings will attempt to turn things around this time. The Kings' main worry at the moment, though, is that overseas players like Jamie Overton and Tabraiz Shamsi aren't readily available.
