Things get exciting in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League as the playoffs get underway with Multan Sultans taking on Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi on Thursday (March 14).
The two teams scheduled the meeting after Multan Sultans secured the top spot with 14 points at the end of the league round. On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi secured the second position with 13 points.
This is their third meeting in the PSL 2024 as during the league stages, Peshawar, under the leadership of Babar Azam, has won twice. With their victory in Match 19, Multan Sultans became the first team to advance to the knockout stage. During the league stage, they only suffered three losses, two of which came in their final three games.
However, Sultans ended the group stage and the standings on a positive note with a convincing victory. Peshawar Zalmi, on the other side, enters this qualifier having defeated Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Multan Sultans three times in a row. Peshawar has the momentum and should be full of confidence about reaching the final.
Usman Khan scored just 21 runs in the most recent match against Quetta, but he has hit three outstanding runs in a row-100 off 50 balls, 106 off 59 balls, and 96 off 55 balls. Only Babar Azam has scored more runs in this year's competition than Mohammad Rizwan, who has amassed 366 runs overall in the group stage. Out of the top five, Usama Mir has taken the most wickets with 21 in 10 games. Throughout the campaign, David Willey has been reliable and frugal with 13 wickets in 9 games.
The top scorer with 498 runs in 9 innings is Babar Azam. In the most recent matchup with Karachi, the captain scored an additional fifty runs. As demonstrated against the Karachi Kings when he scored 30 runs off of just 18 balls, Rovman Powell has been outstanding in the death overs and has made brief appearances.
Luke Wood leads Peshawar in wicket-taking with 11 in 9 innings, and he claimed the crucial wicket of Kieron Pollard in the most recent game. Against Karachi, Naveen-ul-Haq displayed outstanding quick bowling. In addition to dismissing Shoaib Malik and James Vince, he also bowled a maiden.
