Mumbai beat Gujarat by 21 runs

Mumbai, Feb 12 (UNI) Mumbai beat Gujarat by 21 runs to fashion their second consecutive win in the Ramakant Desai (West Zone) league tournament at the Wankhede Stadium here today.

In a match restricted to 25 overs following morning showers that forced the tie to commence in the afternoon, Mumbai scored 194 for seven in their allotted 25 overs after Gujarat won the toss and elected to field.

Rohit Sharma slammed a brilliant 90 off just 75 balls that included 11 fours and a six.

In reply, Gujarat were restricted to 173 for eight wickets in 25 overs, with Parthiv Patel scoring 57. Ramesh Powar claimed three for 27 and Rajesh Verma snared 2 for 35.

In another match played at the Brabourne Stadium, Maharashtra beat Saurashtra by seven wickets in a match reduced to 33 overs.

Batting first, Saurashtra were all out for 151 in 32.2 overs, with only Sitanshu Kotak scoring a half century.

Anupam Sanklecha claimed four for 35, while Yogesh Takwale bagged two for 13.

In reply, Maharashtra scored 152 for three to overcome the winning target, with 7.3 overs to spare, as they scored their second successive win.

Brief scores: Mumbai 194 for 7 (Rohit Sharma 90, Ramesh Powar 36) bt Gujarat 173 for 8 (Parthiv Patel 57; Ramesh Powar 3-27, Rajesh Verma 2-35).

Saurashtra 151 all out in 32.2 overs (Sitanshu Kotak 55; Anupam Sanklecha 4-35, Yogesh Takwale 2-13) lost to Maharashtra 152 for 3 in 25.3 overs (S. Sriram 42 n.o., Yogest Takwale 32 n.o., Praveen Shetty 30; Alpesh Kamalia 3-15, Kamlesh Makwana 3-33).
