A court in Mumbai has directed the police to investigate allegations of molestation against India and Delhi Capitals cricketer Prithvi Shaw dating back to 2023. The order was passed after a plea from social media influencer Sapna Gill.
Sapna Gill was arrested in February 2023 for attacking Shaw following an argument regarding clicking selfies. After being granted bail by a magistrate court, the Bhojpuri actress and social media influencer Sapna Gill had lodged a complaint against India cricketer Prithvi Shaw for allegedly "outraging her modesty".

According to the police, Gill and Thakur had approached Shaw for selfies, which led to an argument as the cricketer refused to oblige after a couple of photographs. Gill and his friends had waited for Shaw and his friend outside the hotel and allegedly chased them and also broke their car's windscreen with a baseball bat.
According to PTI, Metropolitan Magistrate S C Tayde has instructed the police to submit a report of its enquiry by June 19. Furthermore, the court has dismissed the plea from Gill, who is currently out on bail, to seek an action against the police for not registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Prithvi Shaw.
"Criminal complaint registered against Prithvi Shaw, Ashish Surendra Yadav, Brijesh & others (not known to complainant) for illegal acts of molesting and outraging the modesty of Sapna Gill u/s 34, 120b, 144, 146, 148, 149, 323, 324, 351, 354 & 509 of IPC," Gill's lawyer Ali Kaashif Deshmukh had said in February last year.
The CCTV footage of the incident had also gone viral back then. The video showed a youth approaching Shaw before a scuffle between the two parties.
Prithvi Shaw is currently playing in the IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals (DC). He could score only 10 runs off seven balls on Wednesday as Delhi Capitals lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a massive 106-run margin. The Rishabh Pant-side has now lost three of their four matches. Shaw did not feature in the first two games.
