By MyKhel Staff

Rohit Sharma is unhappy with the decisions made by Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya in the ongoing IPL 2024 and the former skipper has decided to leave the franchise after the current edition, according to reports.

Rohit, who joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 and guided them to five IPL titles, was removed from the captaincy role, which the franchise handed over to Hardik ahead of IPL 2024, leading to unrest among the fans and allegedly some members of the team.

Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya

Hardik has been booed in all of Mumbai Indians' matches this season with the joint-record champions losing all the three games, including the recent home fixture by a capitulation against Rajasthan Royals.

The Wankhede crowd gave the franchise ownership a clear message of what they felt about the captaincy decision. While some section of the fan base were happy with the return of Pandya via a trade from Gujarat Titans, not everyone were excited with him replacing Rohit as captain.

There has been suggestions that MI could have handled this situation better like how Royal Challengers Bengaluru did with Virat Kohli or even Chennai Super Kings with Ruturaj Gaikwad. But to remove the current Indian captain from the role was always expected earn flak.

MI could have waited for another season before announcing Hardik as the captain or had better dialogue with Rohit to make an announcement of himself stepping down. However, MI just announced the change via a statement, triggering anger among fans.

Now, after three defeats in as many games under Hardik Pandya, there is talk that MI could review their decision. But if reports are to be believed, they may have left it for too late as their former skipper is unhappy and wants out of the franchise once the season is over.

According to a report from News24, a MI player has informed them that Rohit is not happy with the way Hardik has led the team and might even leave the franchise at the end of the season.

As per the source, there are several disagreements between the two players regarding various decisions which hasn't helped in making a good atmosphere in the team dressing room.

Will Rohit Sharma leave Mumbai Indians after IPL 2024?

The trend and the activity from the franchise suggests, Mumbai Indians are looking at life after Rohit Sharma. And with the recent reports of a rift within the squad, Rohit also may not like to remain at MI, meaning the Indian skipper could be headed into the IPL 2025 mega auction.

There is also talk of other key players Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, who were also unhappy with the captaincy change, following out of the door. However, MI ownership and management could fix this issue by reinstating Rohit as the skipper for the remainder of the season.
