Mumbai Indians confirm departure of Three Coaches ahead of IPL 2027 Season

The Mumbai Indians have confirmed the departure of three of their assistant coaches ahead of the IPL 2027 season, as the franchise announced on Thursday (October 29).

Mumbai Indians have announced that Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson will move on from their respective roles in the franchise's men's team coaching setup.

The five-time Indian Premier League champions thanked the trio for their contributions, commitment and service to the team. The announcement comes amid a period of change in Mumbai Indians' coaching structure ahead of the IPL 2027 season.

Lasith Malinga's Historic Association With MI

Malinga remains one of the most iconic figures in Mumbai Indians' history. The former Sri Lankan fast bowler played a pivotal role in the franchise's bowling attack, helping MI win four IPL titles and the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 trophy.

After his playing career, Malinga returned to the franchise as a bowling mentor and coach. His experience, competitive spirit and influence on successive generations of bowlers made him an important part of the MI setup.

Paras Mhambrey, Hopkinson leave Mumbai Indians

Mhambrey has enjoyed an extended association with Mumbai Indians, serving the franchise from 2010 to 2017 before returning in 2024. The experienced coach contributed to the development of the team's bowling resources and played a role in nurturing talent across different seasons.

Hopkinson joined Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2025 season, bringing international experience from his time with the England men's team. He worked on improving the team's fielding standards, with the franchise appreciating his professionalism and technical expertise.

Kieron Pollard at MI Helm

Kieron Pollard will lead the coaching setup as head coach ahead of the IPL 2027 season. The former West Indies all-rounder has been a key figure in MI's success, winning multiple IPL titles during his playing career with the franchise. And it is expected that a new set of assistants are set to arrive at the franchise ahead of next season.
