The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's domestic T20 competition, is set to begin on November 23.
Mumbai, a powerhouse in domestic cricket, has named a strong 17-member squad for the tournament, with Shreyas Iyer taking the helm as captain.

Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in IPL 2024, will now look to guide Mumbai to success in the T20 format.
A notable inclusion in Mumbai's squad is Prithvi Shaw, who has returned after being dropped from the Ranji team due to issues with fitness and discipline. Shaw, once a promising prospect for India, has struggled with consistency and fitness in recent years. However, Mumbai has decided to bring him back for the T20 competition, seeing his potential in the shorter format. Shaw's inclusion presents him with an opportunity to revive his career and prove his worth.
Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai's Ranji Trophy captain, will play under Iyer's leadership. Rahane, who guided Mumbai to their first-ever SMAT title in the 2022-23 season, is an experienced and dependable player. However, Mumbai will be without their star T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, who is unavailable for the early matches due to personal reasons.
Injuries to players like Shivam Dube, Musheer Khan, and Tushar Deshpande have led to changes in the squad, but the team still boasts a good mix of experience and youth. Young players like Siddhesh Lad, Tanush Kotian, and Shardul Thakur, along with rising talents like Arjun Tendulkar, will add depth to the squad.
Mumbai is set to commence the SMAT 2024 journey with a match against Goa on November 23. All of their matches will be played in Hyderabad. They are slotted in Group E.
