By MyKhel Staff

Musheer Khan, the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan has suffered fracture in a road accident, ahead of Mumbai's Irani Cup match against Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Rest of India. The young star was set to open for the reigning Ranji Trophy champions against Rest of India.

Musheer was travelling with his father Naushad Khan to Lucknow - the venue for the Irani Cup 2024 which starts from October 1 - when he suffered a fracture in a road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway. The 19-year-old is out of danger but will be out of action for the next three months.

“He is out of danger but sustained a fracture which will keep him away from cricket for the next three months. The accident reportedly happened on Purvanchal Expressway. Further details are awaited," sources told MyKhel.com.

Earlier, a Times of India source also confirmed that Musheer Khan was not travelling with the Mumbai team to Lucknow. He said the father-son duo were probably travelling from their hometown Azamgarh to Lucknow.

"He didn't travel with the Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably travelling from Azamgarh, with his father, to Lucknow when the accident happened," a source told TOI.

The injury to Mumbai comes as a big blow to Mumbai. The right-hander has been in fine form lately. He scored 181 in his Duleep Trophy debut innings against India A. He faced a total of 373 balls after India B were reduced to 94/7. The knock helped India B win the match by 76 runs as Musheer was adjudged Man of the Match.

He has also smashed three hundreds and a fifty in the red-ball format. He has also picked eight wickets with his left-arm spin bowling.

A formal statement from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is awaited. The selectors will have the tough task to name a suitable replacement for the all-important tie.
