With speculation increasing about India coach Gautam Gambhir losing his 'power' and influence after the disastrous Test series against New Zealand, it is learnt that the board may have a rethink about if the Indian team goes on to lose the Australian tour.
There is possibility of Gambhir continuing as the coach of white ball team rather than coaching all formats.

"If it doesn't work, he may have to let go the Test team responsibility for the sake of the country. It is again all speculation. We will cross the bridge when it comes," a BCCI source told MyKhel.
Earlier, India were exploring the option of having two coaches for white ball and red ball teams. But it was Gambhir who wanted to coach the team in all fornats and he was given the role of head coach after he bargained for it.
"If morning shows the day, this arrangement may not work as we think it should. Let him continue as the white ball team coach while the Test team could be taken care by a stalwart like VVS Laxman," the source suggested.
Incidentally, Laxman's name was doing the round right after Rahul Dravid decided to move on after India's T20 World Cup triumph. But Laxman was not fitting the bill to coach the white ball team and there were suggestions to have two coaches for the three formats.
But the moment, BCCI got the opportunity to hire a coach for all formats, they opted for it. With all leading Test nations opting for multiple coaches, it's time India does the same.
