Former Ranji cricketer arrested for impersonating Andhra CM and Rs 3 crore fraud

According to the police, Budumuru has conned around Rs 3 crore so far and has cheated over 60 companies so far since 2018.

Nagaraju Budumuru

A former Ranji player has reportedly been arrested for alleged impersonation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Mumbai Cyber police arrested the former Ranji player Nagaraju Budumuru on Monday (March 13) for impersonating the Andhra CM and duping a Mumbai-based electronic shop chain.

Budumuru made a call to the managing director of that shop chain and portrayed himself as the personal assistant of the CM of Andhra, and asked for Rs 12 lakh for sponsorship of budding Andhra cricketer Ricky Bhui.

He even forged some fake documents as proof of his identity and frauded the company. The complaint was lodged after the company didn't hear back from the cricket association after transferring the money to Budumuru.

According to the police, Budumuru has conned around Rs 3 crore so far and has cheated over 60 companies so far since 2018. The police have also recovered around Rs 7.7 lakh from him and the accused has reportedly accepted his crime.

Budumuru was part of the Andhra team

Budumuru was part of the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team from 2014 to 2016. He was also part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL.

"When he stopped doing well on the field after 2018, he started missing the luxurious lifestyle that he had become used to. That was his primary motive behind conning people under various pretexts," an official of the cyber team said during the report.

Budumuru was earlier arrested by Hyderabad and Telangana police for conning many corporate houses in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by impersonating former cricketers and other public personnel asking for sponsorships.
