How Narendra Modi ignited controversy after wishing Navjot Singh Sidhu a speedy recovery

New Delhi, Oct 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu a speedy recovery. Sidhu, the former BJP MP, was admitted to hospital as he has been diagnosed with a "life threatening disease".

The prime minister wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter, "Dear @sherryontopp ji, get well soon. You are a fighter & will overcome the illness in your trademark style. Our prayers are with you."

But Modi's message for Sidhu created controversy. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah questioned Modi regarding the latter's preference for Sidhu's health over infamous Dadri lynching incident.

Abdullah tweeted, "What does it say about our Hon PM that Sidhu's DVT (blood clot) got more attention from him that #Ikhlaq's cold blooded murder did!!!!"

Modi, who is yet to break his silence regarding the Dadri lynching case, has been facing criticism. Opposition party Congress questioned his silence about the incident in which a man was brutally killed for consuming beef.

50-year-old Muslim man, Mohammed Akhlaq, was accused of eating beef and also storing it in his refrigerator. He was beaten to death by a mob on the night of Sept 28 in Bisara village, near the national capital. His family, however, has denied the accusation.

Even the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee spoke about the incident. The President said, "We can't allow the core values of our civilisation to be wasted."

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to remain silent over the issue so far.
