If one has ever taken a flight from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad, they would understand the breathtaking visuals the city of Ahmedabad possesses when the flight takes off. The airport is located at the northeast corner of the city, on the eastern bank of the Sabarmati River.
Many of them who were sitting on the D,E,F column seats of various rows, perhaps would have just had their cameras on to bid their city goodbye and record a video, for probably posting it on social media after the London Touchdown.

But the plane never took off. After about 30 seconds from leaving the soil, it plummeted down and crashed into the walls of the BJ Medical College in the Meghaninagar area, south of the international airport.
The entire occupants of the flight AI 171 have lost their lives, barring one, sitting in the seat of 11A, who cheated death and survived unscathed with minor injuries. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner rammed into the medical college hostel and so far, 24 deaths of various intern doctors and their family members have been confirmed, some of whom were just having their lunch at the canteen.
A personal viewpoint can confirm how beautiful the Narendra Modi Stadium looks when a flight takes off from Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad colosseum, which is the biggest cricket stadium in the world, falls on the western bank of the Sabarmati River and can be clearly seen on the right when a flight takes off from the airport.
The stadium, which hosted the IPL 2025 final most recently and also hosted the World Cup 2023 final, is less than 10 km away from the site of crash, BJ Medical College in Meghaninagar. The Google Map confirms a distance of a mere 9.9 km from the stadium, while exactly 9 km from the international terminal of the Ahmedabad airport.

The Indian team also mourned the loss of lives, and many players expressed their thoughts on social media on Thursday. On Friday, the India A and India players also observed a moment of silence for the victims ahead of their intrasquad match.
