WPL 2025: Nat Sciver-Brunt Becomes First Player in Women's Premier League History to Cross Most Runs Milestones

By MyKhel Staff

Nat Sciver-Brunt on Saturday (March 15) scripted history, becoming the first player in the history of the Women's Premier League (WPL) to score 1000 runs and also register 500 runs in a single edition of the tournament.

Sciver-Brunt achieved the feat during the WPL 2025 final between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, where the England all-rounder representing MI scored a handy 30 in the franchise's second title win.

Nat Sciver-Brunt reaches couple of big milestones

Walking in to bat at number three, Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship alongside skipper Harmanpreet Kaur en-route to the two milestones. Her 28-ball that included 4 fours, ensured MI to safety as the captain smashed a crucial fifty to take her team to a challenging total.

Starting the day at 997 runs in WPL, the English all-rounder reached her first milestone of 1000 runs, becoming the only player to reach the landmark in the WPL which finished three seasons. Here is a look at the highest run-getters in Women's Premier League history:

Most Runs in WPL History

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI) - 1027 runs in 29 innings
  • Ellyse Perry (RCB) - 972 runs in 25 innings
  • Meg Lanning (DC) - 952 runs in 27 innings
  • Shafali Verma (DC) - 865 runs in 27 innings
  • Harmanpreet Kaur (MI) - 851 runs in 26 innings

The race for the top spot was between Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Ellyse Perry and Delhi Capitals' Meg Lanning, but Sciver-Brunt pipped both the Australian stars to the summit thanks to her consistent performance in the closing stages of the 2025 edition.

After crossing 1000 runs, the England star later also became the first player in WPL history to score over 500 runs in a single edition of the Women's Premier League. The previous best was 347 runs by RCB's Perry, who clinched the Orange Cap in 2024. Here is a look at the top run-scorers in a single WPL season:

Most Runs in Single WPL Season

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians) - 523 runs in 2025
  • Ellyse Perry (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) - 372 runs in 2025
  • Ellyse Perry (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) - 347 runs in 2024
  • Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals) - 345 runs in 2023
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians) - 332 runs in 2023

The England all-rounder, who scored five fifies leading up to the final, capped off a phenomenal WPL season by winning both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the Orange Cap, solidifying her status as one of the tournament's standout performers.

Reflecting on her incredible season, Sciver-Brunt expressed her joy and gratitude. "So pleased. It's been a great year for me in the WPL, coming on the back of a lot of cricket. I'm so happy to be standing here as a winner," she said in the presentation.

However, she acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the sport, maintaining a balanced perspective on her achievements. "I will ride the highs whilst I can, and there are some lows around the corner--that's cricket, I guess," she added.

Sciver-Brunt also credited her team's depth and quality, highlighting the contributions of her fellow players. "We have a great amount of all-rounders in our team and some world-class players who can stand up at any point in time. I feel very lucky to be part of that team," she stated.

Beyond individual accolades, the England star emphasized the emotional connection she has developed with her franchise, describing the experience as truly special. "It's so special to be part of a franchise that has become family. It has been amazing, and we are really, really happy," she said.
